What To Do When You Can't Do Much

One of the things I've been asked pretty frequently over the past two months is, "How can I cope or actually have fun when I'm not allowed to leave my house?" (Due to the shelter in place for COVID 19). I've created a list of things you could try based on what I'm hearing other people do, and resources that I've compiled. (Please note that I am not personally recommending any of these. It's just a list to get you started).

  • Start that project you've been putting off due to time restraints

  • Try out a new gym class virtually. There are tons of places out there that are offering free or reduced priced classes for yoga, dance, barre, or even challenges on YouTube. Here are some popular ones I've heard of:

  • Instagram has some good live streaming as well - just do a search for what you're wanting to try

  • Drive somewhere just to get out of the house - but don't get out unless you can social distance properly

  • Houseparty. This is a social network where you can sign on and play games with your friends.

  • Netflix Party. This is a chrome extension, so you can only use it where you have the chrome web browser. It let's you chat with your friends while you watch the same movie.

  • Try some new recipes - Pick a night where you cook together (with those you live with or over video with friends).

  • All Recipes actually has a #quarantinecooking section.

  • Of course video chat on platforms like Zoom, Skype, Facebook messenger, Instagram messenger, SnapChat, hangouts or FaceTime. Some people have told me they're playing card games together online, though I don't know what platform they were using.

  • Drive-By Celebrations like Birthday's.

  • Social Distancing Hiking or Walking together.

  • Scrap-booking, collaging, coloring, or something else creative. You can do this physically or online.

  • Keep the kids busy with activities:

  • Learn something new:

  • Duolingo

  • Learn a musical Instrument or learn to sing

  • Meditate:

  • Headspace

  • Read a book or listen to an audio book

  • Try your local library. If you have a card, you can borrow virtually using an application like Overdrive.

  • Visit an online museum, aquarium, or zoo

  • Journaling

  • Picnic on your lawn... or living room floor. You can even make a fort while you're at it!

  • Get out the projector and have a movie night outside in your backyard.

  • Watch a movie online from a streaming website like...

  • Starz

  • Hulu

  • Netflix

  • Amazon

I'm hoping that this list gave you some ideas or at the very least places to start. I know being stuck at home isn't easy, but you can definitely get creative! Don't hesitate to contact me if you're needing more support.
